It’s a bonfire of the ‘pointless’ bureaucracy – we bring you the lowdown 🔥
Good afternoon
It’s been a big week for the Department for Business and Trade and the Department for Innovation and Technology. Two very large announcements on the same day – both with growth and regulation in mind.
First up, Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced a slashing of the ‘pointless’ administrative burdens many businesses come up against on a regular basis. Like directors' reports to Companies House and interactions with some planning functions – with a promise to allow businesses to have their say on how effective regulators are.
There’s also a bonus opportunity to point out what other regulations they scrap – get in! We chatted it through with Enterprise Nation adviser Tara Askham.
The AI Growth Lab pilot is an encouraging step. It means new AI ideas that can often be held back by bureaucracy can now be tested safely – which could have a positive impact on some public services as well.
If talk of regulation is all too much, maybe think about delegating more and boosting your revenue. Enterprise Nation adviser Tammy Whalen Blake writes about it here.
Meanwhile, a new report has taken an interesting angle to examine UK entrepreneurship – through the lens of survival. Research from Markel shows there are regional economies where certain businesses can survive and thrive better.
