Don’t expect a break from all the new year, new goals chat here

We’re now closer to the year 2050 than the year 2000! Wait, what? How did that happen? But look at the positives – you no longer have to wear ripped, low-rise jeans – quite helpful actually, particularly after Christmas.
Are you setting goals for 2026? We have put a bet on it that you are. Enterprise Nation adviser Jo Lee reckons you should start SMART in 2026. What she means is set some goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-dependent. Enterprise Nation coach Mark Elliott stresses you should think about what worked in 2025 and crucially, what didn’t and why and use that to help you build an environment that supports success.
I was really interested in some data crunching from the Entrepreneurs Network over the holidays. It looked at a series of international indices to understand the UK's true position in the global entrepreneurial ecosystem. And they found hope. But not abstract hope. It was hope grounded in data. I recommend that you read that.
One of the data sources cited found the UK Government was second only to the US in readiness for AI. Perhaps that’s why the government announced its first AI Tzar or Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO) this week. Hoorah for that!
